There are a growing number of unlicensed transports throughout the country who are not authorised by DEFRA to transport your horse and are not registered with VOSA to use their vehicle for hire or reward. Those offering horse transport without an operator's license are doing so illegally.

 Those unlicensed “transporters” do not have their vehicles serviced and  inspected every 6-8 weeks, do not comply with the rules and regulations set out by the Vehicle Operating Standards Agency which includes the laws on driving hours and are not authorised by DEFRA .

  The horses’ welfare is not their priority – your money is.

 It’s very simple to check – ask or when the vehicle arrives to collect your horse look for the second tax like disc clearly displayed on the windscreen.  Make no secret about reading the details.

 If any of these don’t relate to the vehicle or the company you contracted then ask yourself if you are right to put your horse onto that lorry.

 Don’t get taken for a ride – use a licensed transporter.
